Ski World Championships – Most successful Ski Brands

World Championship series finished on Sunday, March 5th. During four weeks we saw best skiers in Alpine Skiing, Biathlon, and Nordic Skiing. We also saw brands competing for their share of success and fame. Not all brands were equally successful and now it is time to announce the best of the best.

Biathlon World Championship

Biathlon World Championship took place in Hochfilzen, Austria from 08.02 to 19.02.2017. We saw nice battles between Laura Dahlmeier and Gabriela Koukalova in ladies competition, first gold medal ever for the USA thanks to Bailey and quite intense competing between Fourcade and Russians on and off ski tracks.

At the field of ski equipment used by winners and medalist, we get the clear picture. Fischer and Fischer again. Fischer skis were used by 17 out of 24 individual medalists. You will hardly find a sport where one brand has such strong dominance. Five gold, eight silvers and four bronze medals go to Austrian brand. Rest of medals were divided between Rossignol and Madshus. Rossignol took five medals (2 golds + 3 bronze medals) and Madshus will celebrate two medals (1 gold and 1 bronze medal).

Alpine Ski World Championship

Alpine Ski World Championship took place in St. Moritz, Switzerland from 06.02 to 19.02.2017. Marcel Hirscher of Austria took the reign as king of the men`s alpine skiing, and Mikaela Shiffrin became the queen of Ladies alpine skiing.

The situation between brands is absolutely different in Alpine Skiing. There are two super-power brands competing till the last day of the championship for the place of the most successful brand. Head took the lead during early days of the championship, but last two days everything changed thanks to a heroic performance of Marcel Hirscher and Mikaela Shiffrin. Hirscher`s win in Giant Slalom and Slalom and Shiffrin gold in Slalom and silver in Giant Slalom helped Atomic to gain the prestigious place of the best ski brand in Alpine Skiing.

Atomic finished with 12 medals out of total 32. 3 gold, 5 silver, and 4 bronze medals were just enough to beat Head. Head finished second with 9 medals. 3 gold, 3 silver, and 3 bronze medals were enough for a safe second place, however, Head definitely wanted to be first.

Third place is reserved for Rossignol with 4 medals (1 gold – 1 silver – 2 bronze), the fourth one belongs to brand dominant in biathlon, but not so much in Alpine skiing, Fischer (1-1-0). Stoeckli, Salomon and Nordica skis took one medal each. Nordica just bronze, Stoeckli and Salomon gold medals.

Ladies Downhill resulted in a win for Ilka Stuhec from Slovenia using Stoeckli skis. It was first ever gold for Stoeckli brand.

Nordic Ski World championship

Nordic Ski World Championship took place in Lahti, Finland from 22.2 till 5.3.2017. Ustiugov from Russia between men and Bjoergen from Norway between ladies dominated through the events.

Between ski brands we saw picture very similar to the biathlon championship. One brand is strongly dominating. And the brand is FISCHER. They took 15 out of 24 medals during championship. Medals were evenly split, as Fischer won 5 golds, 5 silvers and 5 bronze medals.

Rossignol, Salomon and Madshus were in a battle for second most successful brand and the differences were close. Rossignol gained 4 medals which secured them a nice 2nd place (2 – 0 – 2). Third place belongs to Salomon with 3 medals (1 – 1 – 1). And fourth place goes to Madshus for 2 silver medals.
